4150. As we think we’ve reported previously HMAS DUCHESS, the Daring Class destroyer initially loaned by the RN to replace HMAS VOYAGER [II], escorted the converted carrier HMAS SYDNEY [III] on no less than nine of her 23 trooping voyages to Vietnam between 1965 and1972.
She is seen here with sister ship HMAS VENDETTA [II] in the background, with one of them about to take a fuel line from SYDNEY. VENDETTA was the only one of the RAN Daring Class ships to serve a tour on the gunline in Vietnam with the US 7th Fleet, with these obligations generally fulfilled by the more compatible U.S. designed and built CHARLES F. ADAMS/PERTH Class DDGs.
